![]() ![]() ![]() There’s a lot of work to be done before any mixnet project is ready for production usage. As I stated to another poster, zcashd already has Tor support and I think this is the best short to medium term network-level privacy solution in Zcash. ![]() Overall, I agree with your assessment of the project and its immaturity. For example, if the Zcash Foundation and by extension the Zcash community, thinks this is worthwhile, I don’t see any problems in anyone simply running their own mix nodes and providers or participate in being an authority (given that the necessary R&D to enable sufficient sybil resistance, security, etc has been done to allow for open enrollment, of course). Given that, our hope was that the communities that find our project worthwhile would help in the maintenance in the network (perhaps similar to how the I2P and Tor projects are run, I suppose). We are working hard on making the computational requirements reasonable for people to just run mix nodes, providers, authorities and clients. ![]() running PKI authorities, etc), we are still thinking about how this would play out in practice. We have plans to make significant changes to parts of the katzenpost codebase to better serve the needs of the crypto networks that we support such as adding a more distributed authority PKI and network monitoring tools.įurther, as for the actual management of the mixnet (i.e. For the purposes of this conversation, Meson is just cryptocurrency project which makes use of the Katzenpost project.Īs your post states and what I have tried to convey but seems like it’s not coming through is that Meson is a work-in-progress. There are other projects building on Katzenpost, namely Catshadow, a chat application. Katzenpost is a software project that enables one to build mixnet protocols. I will nitpick though and say that Meson isn’t a rebranding of the Katzenpost project at all. Thank you for posting this! I will say that it’s an accurate depiction of the current state of things with regards to Katzenpost and more generally mixnets. ![]()
